When the Power Goes Out…
Yesterday at 2:15PM the BookFool.com lost its electricity due to a heavy storm. So, what does a group of BookFools do when the lights go out and the tornado sirens are singing?
- Watch the storm.
- Keep working (yes, there was one of us doing this and it wasn’t me or Lou).
- Sit atop a large rack of books and relax.
- Tell ghost stories.
- Look for flashlights.
- Lament.
- Train your eyes to see in dim light.
- Look for leaks in the warehouse roof.
- Use your cellular wireless to check The Tennessean and NewsChannel5.com for up-to-the-minute weather news and check on the power outage in Nashville at http://www.nespower.com/OutageMap. As of 10:30PM last night, our area was still in red b/c there are more than 100 customers without power.
- Lou constructed a nifty Boomerang type throwing device out of two sticks. It didn’t return to you, but we wanted more of a frisbee anyhow. Here’s a a How To of the basic design Lou made.
- Throw awesome boomerang into the weeds behind Clifford where it could not be retrieved (you know who you are).
- At 3PM, after the electricity does not return, leave for the Red Door Saloon with the BookFool.com crew and/or to Ugly Mugs with your preacher. I did both.
What did you do the last time the power went out?

Sounds like a blast! Sorry I missed it. We lost power a few days ago here in Mississippi. It was off for over 8 hours.
We got out the guitar and ran through every song we know. Then I played some Beatles tunes through my iPod Touch’s tiny built-in speaker and we had a dance party. Then we went to bed and slept really well.
A few years ago, large parts of Memphis lost power for a whole week. We saw all kinds of Memphians visiting friends and family in Oxford that week. I was helping a friend move out of his house, and some bored Memphians came over to help him move just so they’d have something to do.
Crazy how everything changes when the power goes out. We should have an enforced 4-hr. power outage a couple times a year.
Took a nap. When the power came back on, so did the radio, thus ending my nap.
